The Hip Hop Homage Tunnel in Jersey City

Honoring Hip Hop in Jersey City

In May 2022, graffiti artist Will Power created The Hip Hop Homage Tunnel - a stunning 150-foot tunnel featuring murals on both sides that pay tribute to 45 hip-hop icons. This massive mural is a testament to Will's unique style, known as the "gritty city style," which combines elements of portraiture and fine art with the raw and classic hip-hop roots of tags, throwies, and handstyles. Located along New York and Ravine Avenues in Jersey Heights.

The Mural

The Hip Hop Homage Tunnel features 10-foot tall black and white portraits of hip-hop legends such as Tupac, Biggie, Snoop Dog, Lauryn Hill, Chuck D, and many others. The mural is seen by thousands of people daily as they travel in and out of Jersey Heights, making it a must-see for hip-hop fans from all over.

Sponsored by the Jersey City Mural Arts Program

The Hip Hop Homage Tunnel was sponsored by the Jersey City Mural Arts Program, which supports local artists and brings public art to the streets of Jersey City. The program has been instrumental in promoting Will's work and helping him gain recognition as one of the most talented graffiti artists in the area.

Paying Homage to Hip-Hop Icons and Photographers

The Hip Hop Homage Tunnel not only pays tribute to the hip-hop icons themselves, but also to the photographers who documented them. The mural features a tribute to iconic hip-hop photographers such as Ernie Paniccioli, T. Eric Monroe and David Corio, who captured some of the most iconic images of hip-hop's golden era.
